RETAINING WALLS

Benefits of Retaining Walls

If the landscaping features sharp gradient changes then a retaining wall may be a feature you want to invest in. In addition to providing essential structural support, thoughtfully designed retaining walls can be a great focal point.

Structure Support: Commercial retaining walls help keep soil in place. This usually applies to landscapes that have small hills and these walls act as a necessary barrier to prevent the soil from going forward. This is especially important for the wet transitions between seasons since rain can add to the soil degradation. Commercial retaining walls may be a necessary feature for the landscape to ensure the well-being of your building.

Prevent Soil Erosion and Help with Flood Control: Erosion is going to be prevalent in every landscape, whether it is from water or wind. If the landscape doesn’t feature any trees or shrubs to hold the soil in place then retaining walls are even more important. In addition to the support, they are there to help reduce surface runoff. This reduces the speed the water is traveling at and combats erosion. There is also flood control. Drainage pipes and channels can be added into the construction as further measures for water control and to avoid property damage. Retaining walls also help with this by allowing the water to soak into the soil instead of running off the surface.

Add Functional space: Mounds and hills can be attractive features alone but can also take up space and be hard to landscape. By creating terraces that use a sequence of retaining walls, you add more functional space to the area. The terracing also creates an attractive façade for the space, which can be used to showcase different features, such as gardens.

Aesthetics: Retaining walls can be attractive and build structures depending on the material used and the height. The contrast of stone and concrete, along with the natural landscape already there, adds to the property.
